board holders
Anyone got any instructions on how to make a simple wall mounted board-holder ?
I am going to make one out of wood for the garage - just not quite sure how yet!

Angle irons work well. It's easy to either weld or bolt a frame together and fix to wall. Mine have lasted 5yrs

Ok Thanks - good idea. I shall give it some thought and will attach an image of the design (when I have done it).
...later the next day...
Forgot the diagonals so added them in later. Also need to put in some method to support the board from below + hold the top in with elastic. I reckon you could make this for free with a few bits of timber from the recycling centre if you're lucky!

Board Holder
Hi, One of my fellow students has just knocked up a decent one for me - it can be wall mounted or fixed to an adjustable pole. Inexpensive but well made. I'll ask him if I can forward his contact details to you. I'm sure he'd let you have the plans that he drew up.
Cheers,
Tim

Board Holder
Tha is Ace, i made one, but it was a lot more complicated, I modeled it on the free standing wooded board holder, and then just removed the legs and fixed it to the wall, but that is a lot better than my attempt, simplicity is the best!!!!
Re: board holders
It seems pretty close to the wall! I know my foot would end up hitting the bricks oooouch careful!

re:Board holder
That was my first thought " bit to close to the wall " unless its the camera angle making it look that way
Re: board holders
Thanks for the comments ! - I think it is a camera angle issue (honest). There is plenty of space behind the board - even for a large foot like mine. Of course the dimensions are not fixed and you can make it to your own spec. I really should get a proper breaker-board though as that white one is too easy. Only problem is that after the board breaks, it falls through the hole at the back, so had to add another cross-piece.
I think red-belts should be allowed to do breaking in class !....oooh controversial.

Breaking for colour belt grades
I think it's a shame that you can't do breaking before black belt anymore. When I started training, about 20 years ago, we did breaking starting at about green tag - simple stuff like turning kick and side kick. As you went up the colour belts, you started doing harder techniques.
I always thought this was very valuable in confirming technique, speed, power and positioning, and it was also a good way of showing good attitude and approach. I can't remember anyone being seriously injured during training from when I started to when I gained my black belt - at least nothing being scraped heels and reddened striking surfaces anyway.
Such a shame - I guess it's due to over-cautious health and safety policies or limitations imposed by insurance companies that have stopped this.
